Mitigation

Is an action in response to climate change that consists of reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere, and increasing their sinks – natural systems, such as forests, that absorb more carbon than they emit. Thus, interventions in terms of mitigation contribute to minimizing the greenhouse effect caused by these gases and reducing global warming of the planet.

This objective is achieved through instruments that regulate greenhouse gas emissions in the most critical sectors of the economy and plans that define national measures and targets for this reduction.

Cape Verde, in order to respond to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), moved forward with “Cabo Verde Ambição 2030” plan (Cape Verde Ambition 2030), in which it commits to five mitigation contributions:
1. Reduce energy intensity and promote energy efficiency.
2. Increase renewable energy goals.
3. Reduce the carbon intensity resulting from mobility.
4. Transition to responsible tourism and a circular economy.
5. Promote the natural sink function of ecosystems.
