What is the Climate Portal?
The Climate Portal is the Government of Cabo Verde’s platform that brings together, in one place, national information on climate change and climate action: news, documents and studies in the Climateca, key concepts, climate heroes and the Ação Climática AGORA newsletter. Its aim is to raise awareness and inform citizens, schools, institutions and decision-makers.
Why is Cabo Verde so vulnerable to climate change?
As a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), with more than 99% of its territory made up of ocean, Cabo Verde is highly exposed to prolonged droughts, heavy rainfall and flooding, sea-level rise and rising temperatures. These impacts affect water, agriculture, fisheries, health and coastal areas, as Storm Erin showed in São Vicente in 2025.
What is Cabo Verde doing to tackle climate change?
Cabo Verde aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and 50% renewable energy by 2030. The country has approved the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, the Climate Governance Framework (Resolution No. 28/2024) and the Strategic Plan for Climate Support Mobilisation (PEMAC), and several municipalities already have Local Climate Action Plans (PLAC).
