Climate action refers to efforts made to combat climate change and its impacts. These efforts involve reducing greenhouse gases emissions (mitigation) and/or adopting measures to prepare for and/or respond to the current effects of climate change and the impacts expected in the future (adaptation).
To prevent climate change from reaching dangerous levels, the international community has agreed that global warming must be kept to well below 2.0 °C above pre-industrial levels and that the aim is to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C.
Climate change is the long-term transformation of temperature and weather patterns. These changes can be natural, such as variations in the solar cycle.
However, since the 19th century, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, mainly due to deforestation and the increased burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas.
