Reporters of the Future – National Competition

The “Reporters of the Future” competition is an initiative of the Cape Verde National Commission for UNESCO, in partnership with the National Directorate for Education, the National Directorate for the Environment, the Association for the Defense of the Environment and Development (ADAD), the Cape Verde Journalists Association (AJOC) and the Climate Action Program. This initiative aims to stimulate journalistic research among secondary school students.

Given the growing global relevance of environmental and climate issues, especially for a vulnerable archipelago like Cape Verde, empowering young people to be agents of change in their communities is crucial.

This initiative promotes active citizenship, raising young people’s awareness of sustainable development issues and developing effective communication skills. Each edition will focus on a theme related to building a sustainable future. The first edition will deal with Climate Action, inspired by the Manifesto of Cape Verdean children and adolescents for our Planet, resulting from the extraordinary session of the Children’s and Youth Parliament on children’s rights and climate action.

In this edition, students will be challenged to investigate and interpret local climate issues like real journalists, reinforcing their knowledge in this area, as well as in new technologies and communication techniques. In addition, they will develop skills in citizenship, individual initiative, teamwork, critical analysis, social responsibility and leadership.
