On January 16, the Government of Cabo Verde presented the Portal do Clima (Climate Portal), an innovative instrument in the country that centralizes all information produced at national level on climate change, and which also includes references of relevance on an international scale. This project, supported by the Luxembourg Aid and Development Fund, and developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, aims to educate about climate change, integrating a Climateca (which, as the name suggests, is a library of content and resources related to climate change).
The Portal do Clima (portaldoclima.gov.cv), presented by Ethel Rodrigues, national director of the Environment, is aimed at and accessible to everyone: both civil society and government officials; both adults and young people.
The launch of the portal was attended by several entities and representatives from different countries, with emphasis on Luxembourg Cooperation, which supports governance and Climate Action in Cabo Verde.
Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, declared during the launch of the portal that “our emissions are small, but each country has to do its part”. He added that this year the Climate Basic Law will be brought to Parliament, reflecting the country’s concern with contributing positively to mitigating the effects of climate change and contributing to the country’s adaptation. This law not only regulates Cabo Verde’s entire operations system, ensuring more sustainable practices in all sectors, but also represents a political commitment made to comply with the objectives established nationally and internationally.
