COP28 opening highlights broken records and climate collapse in real time

Climate Summit begins in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with new evidence of 2023 as the hottest year ever; data points to a critical temperature situation, melting ice and rising sea levels; leaders gathered at the event are called upon to act more quickly.

With the presence of more than 160 world leaders, the 28th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP28, begins this Thursday, considered a decisive moment to put climate commitments into practice and limit global warming to 1.5°C.

The conference runs from November 30th to December 12th and takes place in what is about to be considered the hottest year on record.
