In a statement, the institution explains that the chosen theme has the “major objective” of raising awareness among the entire educational community about the importance of this subject, highlighting that “there is a low perception” in Cape Verdean society about the causes and consequences of climate change and the that the Government and society are doing to face the challenges posed by a reality with increased risks for biodiversity, ecosystems, society and the country’s economy.
To increase this awareness, the document clarifies that a set of activities have already been planned with various materials that aim to support teachers, educators, monitors and counselors in the “production and dissemination of relevant information” about climate action in Cabo Verde.
In order for the effect of this training to be perceived, the same source reminds teachers, educators, monitors and advisors that they must take the knowledge test on climate action available on the Climate Action page, which is accessible from the “Climate Action Test” .
Climate Action is the thirteenth objective in the list of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contained in the 2030 Agenda. This means that nations that have adopted this United Nations (UN) global action plan need to implement urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts by the year 2030. These measures came into force on January 1, 2016, meaning there are 15 years to achieve this SDG.
